YVES DEMARIA’S EXPERT EYE ON RANDY’S TRAINING PROGRAMME

YVES DEMARIA’S EXPERT EYE ON RANDY’S TRAINING PROGRAMME
In 2009 the LCR Honda MotoGP racer Randy de Puniet has decided to face up the season with a further support which was named Yves Demaria. Together with his country fellow Randy has begun a very important mental and physical training programme and the pair have travelled together throughout the whole season.

Yves Demaria (born January 22, 1972 in Marseille) has been a very talented motocross racer gaining the MX3 World Title for three times. Demaria won his first MX3 world championship in 2004, following with two more crowns in 2006 and 2007. He has also won several races in the MX1-GP and MX2-GP categories.

Randy: “First of all Yves is a very good friend and I respect him for his incredible career. When I have decided to work with him people thought that it was a strange cooperation. I could have involved a real personal trainer or a former GP rider but I knew that Yves could support me in the right way. He is thick-skinned like all the MX riders. He could teach me how to improve my concentration and skills on the bike. If we consider that every GP rider usually practice motocross Yves was the right choice for me! Together we have planned a regular training programme which includes aerobic and anaerobic exercises considering the training typologies, their intensity and the powers of recovery. Thanks to the cardio equipment and a regular blood exam session I can easily check my physical form constantly”.

When have you met Randy for the first time and how did you start your collaboration with him?

Yves: “Well I met Randy 10 years ago during a Supermoto competition and we immediately had a good feeling. After that, we started to do some MX training in the winter time. At the end of 2008 season he asked me a further help to be more competitive and more concentrated at the races and I thought it could be an interesting experience for both”.

Please explain us the training programme you chose for Randy.

Yves: “Randy likes sports very much so it has not been difficult to involve him in different activities. We decided to create a base programme which includes cycling and running… then, of course, we practice MX, Enduro and Supermotard”.

As a former MX rider which are the main targets for a rider to be fitted for the competitions. Example: special diet, special training etc...

Yves: “In my opinion to be at the top level in every sport, you must have a good physical condition and an irreproachable healthy life. Then you have to add a good training, a healthy diet and good sleeps. But the most important thing is that you have to do a lot sacrifices!”

Which are the main differences between a MX rider and a MotoGP rider? Physically speaking.

Yves: “Compared to a MX rider, a MotoGP rider needs less physical training, it’s sure! For the GPs you have to work on the suppleness and not being too muscular. For the MX competitions you have to become physically strong, powerful and you must train a lot on the bike”.
