SUPERB FRONT ROW FOR DE PUNIET AT SILVERSTONE GP QUALIFYING

SUPERB FRONT ROW FOR DE PUNIET AT SILVERSTONE GP QUALIFYING
Silverstone, 19 June: LCR Honda MotoGP rider Randy De Puniet will start tomorrow’s UK Grand Prix from the front row following today’s stunning qualifying session at new Silverstone race track which hosts the fifth round of the season. The French rider placed his Honda RC212V in 2nd place with a best lap time of 2’03.434 (despite a small crash in the last lap) as he was capable to take a big advantage from the soft tyres at the 5.902 Km race track and he was the leading rider for the major part of the session.

De Puniet was mightily impressed with the new venue as he placed fourth in the opening practice session yesterday and again second fastest in this morning second free session. The 60-minute qualifying session was conducted in the dry though cloudy skies and low temperatures but the 29-year-old produced another strong result gaining the front row behind Lorenzo. Pedrosa closes the front row of the British GP starting grid.

De Puniet –  2nd – 2’03.434

De Puniet : “I am very happy because this is my first front row start since Assen 2007. I am really enjoying myself on this track and thought it was possible to take the pole position today when I stripped half a second off Lorenzo’s top time but in the last lap he took pole back and I also experienced a fall right. I have cut my right thumb in the crash but it was not necessary to stitch it up. For sure this crash was helpful to me as I understood I must remain calm during the race! The overall package is working well and I am riding faster and faster lap by lap but we still have to adjust something especially in the engine mapping and traction control but we will work on it tonight. Honestly I do not want to dream about the podium but we have got a good potential to race in the front tomorrow”.
