2011 FIRST RUN OUT FOR ELIAS CONCLUDED TODAY AT SEPANG

2011 FIRST RUN OUT FOR ELIAS CONCLUDED TODAY AT SEPANG
The first on-track MotoGP action concluded today at Sepang race track where the 17 premier class riders and their Teams worked to fine tune their 2011 prototypes ahead the first round in Qatar on the 20th of March. The 800cc riders experienced typical Malaysian weather with air temperature of 30 degrees and will return to Sepang for a further 3-day test on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of February.

Riders from Honda, Ducati, Yamaha and Suzuki put their new bikes through their paces at the 5.548km track with Simoncelli on the top of the timesheet with a best lap time of 2:00.757. The LCR Honda MotoGP Spanish racer Toni Elias got back on track aboard his RC212V in preparation for the forthcoming season completing 177 laps in total throughout the 3 days of practices despite the flu (16th overall – 2’02.916). Elias and his squad tried several adjustments to make a step up in their machine performance as the Spaniard continued his adaptation to the new bike after one-year hiatus in Moto2.

Elias: “It was a difficult 3-day testing for me. I flew to Malaysia one week earlier to train in this typical heat and to avoid the jetlag consequences but 3 days ago I have started to feel sick. At the end I had to take antibiotics for the flu so physically I was not okay and this bike requires to be in a good form. Despite the flu I think we had 3 productive days trying different adjustments to get more confidence and more stability on track. However we still have a lot of work to do because I am struggling to find the right setting for me but this is normal as I am continuing my adaptation to the RCV. I lapped in 2.01 in 2009 on a MotoGP bike so I am sure we will find the way to reduce the gap”.
